SEEPZ SEZ
Santacruz Electronic Export Processing Zone was created in 1st May, 1973 as uni-product EPZ exclusively for manufacture and export of electronic items in an area of 110 acres of land leased through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Andheri (East), which over the years has become a land mark of Mumbai.
Considering the high potential and the pollution-free nature of Gem & Jewellery Industry, the Govt. of India decided to permit manufacture and export of Gem & Jewellery items from SEEPZ. SEEPZ was one of the three export processing zones converted into a special economic zone in 1st November 2000. The Santacruz Electronic Export Processing Zone-Special Economic Zone (SEEPZ-SEZ) has achieved record exports during the coronavirus pandemic, exceeding Rs 1.50 lakh crores, investment of more than Rs 80,000 crores and employment generation for 5,60,000 people in 2021-22.
